Vacation Blog – Day Three
Today i spent entirely on-campus. I don’t think i was planning to do that, but i thoroughly enjoyed it. it started off at 9am with me visiting a couple of more computer science instructors for a while, then talking to a fellow college buddy, who is on faculty now. Then i decided to check out the ginormous Crown Centre. I thought i was going to go to chapel, but ended up it was the Senior Class meeting. Oh well, i just was amazed of the size. Afterwards, i recognize the audio guy and talked to him for a little bit, and we actually went to school during the same time and he remember during a church service that i was actually involved in. After we got done talking, he gave me the VIP tour of the A/V equipment room as well as behind the revolving stage. Yes, i did say a revolving stage that takes 8 minutes to do a 180-degree turn. during the tour, i was able to see the last few seconds of the turn. Very Impressive!
Next, i decided to eat lunch, and boy did that bring back memories of the food. Moving on, after that i finally caught up with another staff member who i went to college with, and he now works as an admissions advisor for the college. Conversation a little short because he needed to go someplace, and i was going to go on a campus tour. Tour lasted 90 minutes with a 10-min dvd and a tour of several bldgs on campus, which included the ginormous crown centre and the sports center addition. After the tour, i met up with the admissions guy and we talked for a bit getting caught up and all, then i up to the 4th floor of the library to see the 1-room school house and also some very old manuscripts.
Next i went back to the sports center and took pictures of the water park, because when we were on tour, the park was open to women-only at the time. So, i waited until it was the men’s time to go check it out.
After that was done, it was getting close to supper, so i decided to go to the other main food facility on campus to eat supper. While i was eating alone, a very nice family (who i met on the campus tour) ask if i wanted to join them. I said sure. Had a very nice conversation with a family from Ohio that their son was looking at becoming a student. Since i was wearing my alumni badge all day, they ask me questions, and i tried to answer them the best i could, however 10 yrs some things have change. I helped him as much as i could giving him a little insight of what to expect if he decides to come here, some choices he will have to make within the first week, and some advice on some things like white-glove cleaning.
Yes, i know this is long, but I’m almost done. Finally it was going to the Wednesday evening church service. When the service begin, and we started singing, i almost got the chills because it has been ten yrs since I’ve heard five to six thousand people sing. It was incredible to hear all those people sing!! WOW…….plus when the 160-voice choir did their special, that was also something awesome to hear!
Now tomorrow i hope to enjoy the thanksgiving festivities and maybe go to the beach. 🙂
